Universal Studios Singapore launches Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting Celebration

Close to 150 invited guests, including famous personalities, members of the media as well as student artists from Pathlight School – the first autism-focused school in Singapore – attended the media preview of the Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting Celebration at Universal Studios Singapore on Friday (March 8, 2019).

The guests were among the first to experience the festivities, from meeting Big Bird at his nest to
being part of a monster-sized Sesame Street Birthday Blowout Show. The highlight was the launch of a first-of-its-kind exhibition inspired by Oscar the Grouch and his trash can.

Fifty local and regional celebrities, influencers, as well as students from Pathlight School, have each decorated Oscar’s trash can with creative and meaningful designs to commemorate Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary.

The exhibition embraces diversity and inclusion, and celebrates the abilities of people with autism and related challenges. It provided a platform for students from Pathlight School’s Artist Development Programme to showcase their artistic talents, alongside celebrities and personalities such as actress-host Michelle Chong, fashion director and show producer Daniel Boey, marquage artist Cherin Sim, Malaysian artist Dudu De Doodle, Indonesian actress-singer Bunga Citra Lestari and Filipino basketball player Doug Kramer.

All 50 beautifully decorated cans are now on display at various locations within Resorts World Sentosa, including Universal Studios Singapore.

In honour of the milestone celebration, RWS will pledge S$5 (*up to a maximum amount of S$10,000) towards Autism Resource Centre (Singapore) for every Instagram post of a Sesame Street-themed trash can at Resorts World Sentosa.
The donation will go towards supporting children and adults on the Autism Spectrum Disorder to lead meaningful and independent lives in society.

Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting Celebration at Universal Studios Singapore will be on till 28 April 2019. The birthday bash will include all-new interactive shows and exhibits featuring favourite Sesame Street characters such as Elmo, Cookie Monster and more.
