Talisker: The wild spirit shaped by nature

For almost 200 years, Talisker has been embracing the ever-changing elements and producing whisky on the beautifully desolate island. From rugged shorelines to beastly storms, warming sunbeams and soaring skies, the nature of Skye has inspired Talisker whisky from the day the MacAskill brothers rowed to its formidable shores and broke ground.

Enduring storms, a fire, and the ebb and flow of time and tide, Talisker is rugged and made by the sea. Passionate craftsmen work in harmony with the ever-changing elements to craft a whisky of such bold and distinct characters. Talisker’s distinct style – of subtle salty aromas, rich fruity sweetness, and a warm peppery finish – tied closely with its extraordinary history, gathers a devoted following over the years.

A rugged resilience

Even the massive fire in 1960 that destroyed the stillhouse could not quench Talisker’s heat, though it seemed to set Loch Harport ablaze. Standing several miles next to the open sea, enjoying dramatic views of the Cuillins, the distillery is equipped with five stills – exact replicas of the originals – and has released a significant number of new expressions in recent years.

Through the turn of seasons

Every day, the sea shapes the distillery, its people, and their whisky. As seasons turn in the Isle of Skye, the walls of Talisker are by turn soaked, freezing, dry, and warm, which in turn affects the character of their single malts. Becoming one with the elements, the result is a distinctive style with notes of sea spray and coastal spicy peatiness.

Taste the Talisker spirit

An unmatched sensory pairing, Talisker is best enjoyed with freshly shucked oysters. The ritual: take a sip of Talisker, eat the oyster, pour Talisker into the shell, drink. The full-bodied peatiness and smooth maltiness goes perfectly with flavours of the sea.

The Talisker Portfolio

The portfolio of whiskies that Talisker boasts, with its core characteristics of sea salt, smoke and pepper bite, is as untamed as the landscape in which the liquids are produced. These are whiskies that are truly made by the sea, proving unrivalled quality with casks that are part of Diageo’s Casks of Distinction programme.
