Bird Paradise welcomes first guests

About 3,000 members of the public flocked to Bird Paradise at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve on the first day of its soft opening on May 8, 2023. Bird Paradise’s soft launch period runs till 26 May 2023 and about 20,000 guests are expected  in the first week.

As a special welcome surprise for the early birds, the first eight guests to enter Bird Paradise on May 8 scored a one-year Friends of Wildlife membership, which entitles them to unlimited visits to any of the four wildlife parks at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. Existing members will get a complimentary Bird Discovery Tour.

The tokens of appreciation were presented by Mike Barclay, Group CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group, who was joined by management and staff who greeted the first guests at the park entrance.

As visitors streamed in, they were enthralled by the first flight of avian presentations as well as the up-close interactions with many feathered friends at feeding sessions and keeper talks in the eight large walk-through aviaries and the Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove.

As one of the last batch of birds to move to Bird Paradise, the penguins continue to explore their new state-of-the-art, multi-level indoor habitat while guests look on in awe of the fascinating oceanic life of penguins, both above and underwater.

To give the avian residents time to settle in, and make operational adjustments where needed, the park is operating at 75 percent capacity, before ramping up capacity for the June school holiday season.

From dining with the penguins at Penguin Cove Café to feasting on the waterfall views at Crimson Restaurant, all in-park F&B at Bird Paradise, except for Penguin Cove Restaurant and Bird Bakery, are now open for diners to enjoy.

Singapore, Bird Paradise is one of Asia’s largest  bird parks. The 17-hectare park is home to 3,500 birds from 400 species, of which 24 per cent of species are threatened. Designed to encourage discovery at every turn, Bird Paradise welcomes visitors into immersive and naturalistic mixed-species habitats in eight large walk-through aviaries that reflect different biomes of the world from dense African rainforests, South American wetlands, Southeast Asian paddy fields, to Australian dry eucalypt forests, and more. Other unique experiences include a state-of-the-art penguin habitat and animal programmes at the 2,000 seater, Sky Amphitheatre.

Avian care, research and conservation are integral to the park. Key focus species include Asian Songbirds and Hornbills, with Bird Paradise the home of over 20 species – making it the world’s largest living genetic reserve of Hornbills under human care. The park will also be involved in over 75 ex-situ globally managed breeding programmes and conservation programmes where several species are directly linked to regional field conservation projects.

Bird Paradise is located at 20 Mandai Lake Road, 729825.
