New digital-first mobile operator combines smartphones, customisable data plans and device protection in a single subscription, aiming to offer consumers greater flexibility.
Singapore’s highly competitive telecommunications market has welcomed a new player promising to change how consumers choose their mobile plans, upgrade their smartphones and protect their devices.
Swap Mobile, a digital-first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), officially launched in Singapore on October 19, 2026, introducing a subscription-based service that combines mobile connectivity, smartphones and device protection.
Powered by StarHub’s nationwide 4G and 5G networks, the service allows customers to adjust their mobile plans every month and become eligible to upgrade their phones after just six months.
Unlike conventional mobile contracts, where customers typically retain their devices for two years or longer, Swap Mobile’s model is designed for people whose lifestyles, data consumption and smartphone preferences change frequently.
The company announced its entry into Singapore on October 16, with services initially available online before expanding to selected partner retailers.
Its central proposition is straightforward: consumers should not have to remain locked into the same mobile arrangements when their needs change.
“Mobile services have traditionally been built around fixed plans and upgrade cycles. Consumers do not live that way anymore,” said Mr Andy Tan, managing director of Swap Asia Group.
“Their needs, usage patterns and device preferences evolve over time, so we wanted to bring phone, plan and protection together in a way that gives them greater flexibility to adapt.”
The approach reflects the company’s brand philosophy, Maybe Leads to More, which encourages consumers to consider new possibilities rather than commit to rigid arrangements.
A different approach to phone ownership
One of Swap Mobile’s key attractions is its 24-month Device Subscription, which allows customers to access selected flagship and mid-range smartphones without an upfront device payment.
The subscription includes a smartphone, a chosen 4G or 5G plan and Swap Protect Pro device protection under one monthly fee.
After six months, customers become eligible to request an upgrade by returning their existing phone and starting a fresh subscription term with another device.
However, the arrangement differs from conventional smartphone purchases because ownership of the subscribed device remains with Swap Mobile.
Customers who prefer to own their phones can purchase selected models outright or through bank instalment plans.
The company is offering introductory Device Subscription prices ranging from S$5.90 to S$105.90 monthly for the first three months.
From the fourth month, regular charges ranging from S$29.90 to S$119.90 apply.
Plans that change with usage
Another distinguishing feature is Swap Mobile’s customisable SIM plans.
Using a slider-based digital interface, customers can adjust their data, talk time and SMS allowances each month without switching operators.
Standard SIM-only plans start at S$10 monthly for 4G and S$15 for 5G, with no long-term commitment.
A limited-time launch promotion reduces the starting price to S$1 monthly for the first three months.
The plans also target Singapore’s frequent regional travellers.
Both 4G and 5G subscriptions include Asia-Pacific roaming allowances of 10GB and 25GB respectively, while 5G customers receive an additional 10GB of global roaming data.
Users can also customise roaming allowances for Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Device protection forms another important component of the service.
Every Device Subscription includes Swap Protect Pro at no additional monthly charge, covering accidental damage, attended theft and screen cracks, subject to policy conditions.
Standalone SIM customers receive complimentary Screen Crack Protect, covering one claim annually for repairs of up to S$250 at brand-authorised service centres.
Looking beyond cheaper data
Swap Mobile enters a market where established telecommunications companies and numerous MVNOs compete aggressively on price, data allowances and promotional offers.
Mr Wong Peng Yew, executive director of Swap Telecommunications, believes the industry needs to offer more than inexpensive connectivity.
“Singapore consumers don’t need another provider simply competing to give them more gigabytes. The market has moved beyond that,” he said.
“Our ambition is to build a mobile relationship that becomes more useful over time. Connectivity is the starting point, not the end point.”
Mr Wong, who previously spent more than six years with StarHub, said the company wanted to combine digital convenience with accessible customer support.
StarHub welcomed the partnership, describing it as an opportunity to broaden consumer choice.
“Swap Mobile brings a distinctive proposition by putting device protection at the heart of the mobile service proposition, backed by the quality and reliability of StarHub’s network,” said Mr Vidur Rattan, StarHub’s chief of consumer business.
Plans for regional expansion
Swap Mobile is backed by Swap Asia Group, which has more than two decades of experience in device distribution, trade-ins, financing, protection and mobile lifecycle management.
The group operates across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.
Beyond mobile subscriptions, Swap Mobile plans to introduce travel connectivity, streaming, entertainment and insurance services, eventually creating a broader subscription ecosystem.
Its Singapore launch therefore represents more than the introduction of another mobile operator.
By combining flexible plans, frequent device upgrades and built-in protection, the company is seeking to establish a different approach to mobile subscriptions in a market where consumers already have considerable choice.

Interview with Andy Tan (above), Managing Director, Swap Asia Group
Q: How much does the service cost an average customer?
A: Swap Mobile’s Device Subscription costs between S$29.90 and S$119.90 a month at regular rates. Customers signing up during the first month of launch can enjoy promotional rates of S$5.90 to S$105.90 monthly for the first three months, with regular pricing applying from the fourth month.
With a choice of flagship and mid-range smartphones and customisable SIM plans, customers can select a package that suits their needs and budget. They can adjust their data, talk time and SMS allowances monthly and request a new phone every six months.
Q: How can customers contact customer service? Can they expect a prompt response?
A: Although Swap Mobile is a digital-first MVNO, we understand the frustration of not being able to reach someone when help is needed. We offer a telephone hotline staffed by real people, WhatsApp and in-app support, giving customers several ways to contact us.
Q: Does the subscription lock customers into a long-term commitment?
A: Our Device Subscription has a 24-month term, but offers flexibility as customers’ needs change. Eligible customers can request a new phone after six months by returning their existing device and starting a fresh 24-month term.
They can also adjust their data, talk time, SMS and additional roaming allowances monthly.
Customers choosing standalone SIM-only plans can adjust their allowances every month without a long-term commitment.
Q: With its roots in Malaysia, what is Swap Asia Group’s background and experience?
A: Founded in 2005, Swap Asia Group has more than two decades of experience in device distribution, trade-in solutions, device protection and mobile lifecycle management. We operate across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan.
Q: Why did Swap Mobile choose Singapore for its launch?
A: Singapore’s mature and competitive telecommunications market offers an opportunity to deliver value beyond price and data allowances.
We want to bring Swap Asia Group’s expertise directly to consumers by combining phone, plan and protection in one flexible service.
This allows us to build closer relationships with customers, giving them greater control and flexibility as their needs evolve, while ensuring support is available when required.
Connectivity is just the starting point. Our goal is to make that relationship increasingly useful over time.
Q: Is Swap Mobile the first provider in Singapore to offer a Device Subscription with a six-month phone swap option?
A: Swap Mobile is the first provider in Singapore to combine phone, plan and protection in a Device Subscription offering a six-month phone swap option.
This gives customers one of the shortest intervals between device upgrades available in Singapore.
Q: For customers satisfied with SIMBA or their existing mobile provider, what makes Swap Mobile different?
A: Our key differentiator is simplicity. We combine phone, plan and protection in one flexible service, reducing the number of separate arrangements customers need to manage.
Our Device Subscription includes a brand-new smartphone, a selected mobile plan and Swap Protect Pro under one monthly fee, with support for both connectivity and device-related needs.
Rather than competing to be the cheapest provider in a crowded market, we focus on overall value.
Guided by our philosophy, Maybe Leads to More, we give customers the freedom to adapt their mobile experience through adjustable monthly allowances and the option to request another phone every six months.
Customers should not have to predict today which phone or mobile plan they will need months or years down the road.
