“Tackling diabetes is a major priority for Singapore. One in three Singaporeans can expect to develop diabetes in their lifetime, impairing the quality of life in later years,” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his address at the launch of the WHO (World Health Organisation) Global Diabetes Compact on April 15, 2021.
Although diabetes does not appear as a top cause of death, many cases of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failures are in fact traced back to diabetes.
Diabetes also complicates the treatment of many other diseases, including COVID-19.
In 2016, Singapore declared a ‘War on Diabetes’. PM Lee said: “Believing that prevention is better than cure, we strongly encourage Singaporeans to adopt healthy diets and lifestyles.”
By 2030, the number of Singapore residents above 40 with diabetes is projected to increase to 600,000 compared to about 400,000 today.
As there is no cure for diabetes, keeping it under control is crucial.
Blood sugar testing is an important part of diabetes care, self-testing your blood sugar (blood glucose) is an important tool in managing your diabetes and preventing complications.
You can test your blood sugar at home with a portable electronic device called a blood sugar meter (or blood glucometer) using a small drop of your blood.
To meet worldwide demand for blood glucometers, Singapore brand BUZUD has manufactured three models of blood glucometers approved and authorised for use
by diabetics in several countries:
* Gold AQ Plus
* Safe AQ Air
* Safe AQ Angel
The Gold AQ Plus blood glucometer is stable, has strong anti-interference and a wide HTC range.
The BUZUD Safe AQ Air blood glucometer connects to your phone app via Bluetooth. Testing time takes just 5 seconds and it is virtually pain free.
The BUZUD Safe AQ Angel requires no coding. Testing takes just 5 seconds and it is virtually pain free.
