Dive into Fiji’s most exclusive pool at Laucala Island

As one of the world’s most exclusive South Pacific retreats, Fiji’s Laucala Island combines rainforest-laced landscapes, volcanic mountains and scenic panoramas of the beach with unparalleled levels of luxury and privacy. While each of the 25 individually designed villas has its very own infinity pool, linking seamlessly with ocean views, an impressive 40,000-square-foot pool is located at the heart of the resort, where guests can enjoy the pool freely or use exclusively for celebrations and events to really make a splash.

Guests can dip their toes in the pool to unwind, bask in the sun by the pool or plunge in for a swim. Luckily for non-swimmers, Laucala also offers personal swimming lessons at the landscaped pool, which is divided into three areas; the main pool, a vast lagoon with four levels and unique lap pool that sits above the collection of organically shaped pools, dotted with multiple islands for sun lounging, which then cascades down over pebble-lined waterfalls into the lagoon, extending right onto the beach front.

Design concept and inspiration

Taking 5 months to build, London based hospitality landscape architects – Scape Design, led by Design Director Phil Jaffa, based their pool design concept on blending harmoniously with the island’s natural environment and created a resort focus and centre which is made up of a series of terraced pools, all with horizon edges flowing down into each other and looking out towards the sea.

The overall effect was intended to resemble a stream that had run its course through the hills and series of water bodies, strewn with boulders and plantation until it finally reaches the river mouth, headed for the sea. Taking inspiration from the surrounding ocean, the pool echoes the serene nature of the water and is there for guests to experience and enjoy at leisure.

Pool facts and features

From water polo and aqua aerobics to exercise laps and learning how to dive, the pool is the perfect space for exercise and fitness, where there is a dedicated pool manager who leads a team of 8 to service the pool and keep it in top condition for guests.

A pool within a pool – the 82-foot-long lap pool is a raised box that glows turquoise in the sun and has a glass end that allows swimmers to be seen by guests in the lower lagoon. It also allows for special and rare photo moments that guests can take advantage of, take home and remember once more, through their photographs.

The beach entry points of the pool are made of natural sand and the water within the pool is from a salt water chlorinated system. This state-of-the-art technology provides swimmable water that has lost all taste of salt, without feeling over chlorinated and will be less offensive to guests with sensitive skin.

The ultimate private pool party

Hosting a pool party in the utmost privacy is effortless at Laucala Island. The pool and lagoon have exclusive and intimate areas that can be divided and sectioned off for small or large groups of friends and families of all ages, who wish to enjoy it privately.

But to make waves with the ultimate pool party, guests can go all in with an ‘Island Buyout’ for a cool US$850,000* for a 5-night group getaway and enjoy lunch by the pool, followed by sunset cocktails and even a barbecue to continue Fiji’s most epic pool party celebration.
